Contact Type

Hello, (4.0.6 User)
I'd like to add a few new 'Contact Types' to codeContactType? The table is 'read only.' <--Not true.
I can add a type in the DB to the table, but I can't get it to appear in the email window. I knew that was too easy.
Has anyone had any success in adding additional contact types? Am I missing something?
